Codenamed Operation Overlord, the battle began on June 6, 1944, when some 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region. The invasion began with the airdrop of over 13,000 American Screaming Eagles to secure and block strategic positions. The Screaming Eagles are frequently called the tip of the spear. Will the Allies repeat history and penetrate the German juggernaut on the continent or will Germany drive the Allies back into the sea. Become part of this struggle, become Legends.
The battle begins on a 15ft. x 4ft. map of the entire Normandy Coast. Six generals on both sides will command the troops twelve in total. With each beach being able to interact with the beach on both sides. Just like war you win or lose as a team. This plays like Memoir ’44 but has a much grander scale with rules for increased mobility. This will be unlike any Memoir game you have played. The only word to describe it is epic. So epic that the players from last year could still describe what happened over the course of the game, one year later. This is a monster game that you will only be able to experience at a convention. It takes eight base sets of the game, twelve decks of command cards, four Mediterranean expansions, the equipment packs, each general receives an easy to follow beach specific manual, plus additional bits to complete the setup.
The entire D-day scenario takes plus or minus about 6 hours. If you know how to play Memoir 44 you will be able to play this game. If you don’t fully remember how to play all rules will be taught before the game. This year don’t be one of the observers watching the invasion become the commander that is leading your side’s troops to victory. The first army to reach a certain number of victory points wins. Last year’s game was decided in the last two rounds with the Allies just edging out the victory over the Germans.
